As technology continues to advance, the difference between CGI and real life has become more and more hard to perceive. When it first came out, CGI was easy to spot due to its abnormal textures and lack of good movement, however today it is able to be incorporated into real action videos better. Today’s CGI can portray the most intricate of human emotions and their surroundings, making it hard for the audience to determine what is fake. Movies like Avatar or The Lion King (2019) clearly enable the viewer to appreciate the evolutionary power of CGI in producing entire realistic worlds, whereas the more mundane applications of CGI simply add weather elements, buildings, and people to already existing scenes. As CGI starts to become more and more advanced, we start to wonder: how far can we go in advanced graphics before it becomes impossible to distinguish what is real and what is a product of digital art? This technological progression or growth will also keep blurring the lines between the physical world and the digital world, offering new dimensions in creativity as well as questions of ethics.
